Buying Caustic Soda Flakes in Gujarat: Makes, Packing, Delivery and Price Factors
Gujarat is one of India's biggest markets for caustic soda flakes. Textile processors in Surat and Ahmedabad, chemical and dye units in Ankleshwar, Panoli, Vapi and Vadodara, soap makers, paper mills and effluent plants all use it every day. This guide covers what to decide before you order: the make, the grade and packing, how quickly material can reach you, what drives the price, and which documents should come with every delivery.
The four makes you will be offered
Almost all caustic soda flakes sold in Gujarat come from four Indian producers, all with chlor-alkali plants in the state's Bharuch–Vadodara belt:
| Make | Manufacturer | Product page |
|---|---|---|
| GACL | Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited | GACL caustic soda flakes |
| Grasim | Grasim Industries (Aditya Birla Group) | Grasim caustic soda flakes |
| DCM Shriram | DCM Shriram Limited | DCM Shriram caustic soda flakes |
| Epigral | Epigral Limited | Epigral caustic soda flakes |
Does the make matter? All four supply industrial-grade flakes at 98–99% NaOH. In practice buyers choose a make for three reasons: their process has been validated on it, their customer or auditor names it in a specification, or it is the one available fastest when they need it. If none of these applies, compare the COA and the delivered quote. Staying on one make once your process is set up helps keep results consistent.
Grade, form and packing
- Grade: 98–99% NaOH industrial grade covers textile processing, soaps and detergents, chemical manufacturing, effluent treatment, paper and metal cleaning. If your process has limits on salt or iron, share them so the right lot is matched.
- Form: flakes are the standard solid form. If you are weighing flakes against liquid lye, see caustic soda flakes vs pearls vs lye.
- Packing: 25 kg and 50 kg bags. A tonne is 40 bags of 25 kg or 20 bags of 50 kg. Smaller bags are easier to lift by hand and better if you open one at a time; 50 kg bags mean fewer bags to handle and store.

What decides the price
Caustic soda prices are not fixed list prices; they follow the market. When you compare quotes, these are the factors behind the number:
- Make. Availability differs between producers from month to month, and so does the price.
- Quantity and frequency. A regular monthly requirement can be planned and stocked; one-off urgent loads cost more to arrange.
- Packing. 25 kg and 50 kg bags are both standard, but the bag size changes handling and packing cost per tonne.
- Delivery distance and load size. Freight per tonne falls as the load fills the vehicle and rises with distance.
- The chlor-alkali market. Caustic soda and chlorine are made together in the same cells. When chlorine demand is weak, producers cut output and caustic soda tightens; power and salt costs, plant shutdowns and export demand move prices too.
- Payment terms. Advance payment, Letter of Credit, Documents against Payment, or credit terms for established buyers.
Because we hold genuine caustic soda flakes from leading makes in our own Ankleshwar stock, buyers regularly find our quotes highly competitive. Compare our quote before you place your next order — we reply within 24 hours.
Documents that should come with every delivery
- Tax invoice with the correct HSN code — 28151110 for caustic soda flakes.
- E-way bill where the consignment value requires one.
- Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the lot supplied.
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) — caustic soda is UN1823, Class 8 (corrosive).
When the material arrives
- Check that bags are intact and dry; torn bags let moisture in and the flakes lump.
- Store on pallets in a dry, covered area, away from acids, aluminium and zinc.
- Give the people who open bags goggles or a face shield and gloves, and keep water for eye-washing nearby.
